About this role
Baltimore Classical Academy (BCA) is a new private, Christ-centered classical school opening in Fall 2027. Inspired by the models of The Field School in Chicago and of Hope Academy in Minneapolis, and supported by Spreading Hope Network. BCA exists to provide an excellent education that is academically rigorous, gospel-centered, and rooted in the classical tradition.
The Board of Directors is prayerfully seeking a Founding Head of School—a leader with a clear call from God, a heart for Baltimore’s children and families, and the perseverance to build something from the ground up.
The Unique Challenge
Starting a Christian school is not for the faint of heart. It requires faith, resilience, and vision. The Founding Head of School will pioneer BCA’s launch—casting vision, building trust in the community, raising resources, and shaping the culture of a Christ-centered school from day one. This is a rare opportunity to combine entrepreneurial grit with a deeply spiritual calling to see God’s kingdom advance in the lives of children and families from all walks of life through education.
Candidate Profile
The Board is looking for a leader who embodies the following qualities:
Faith-Filled & Spiritually Grounded
A mature follower of Jesus Christ with demonstrated character and dependence on God. A person of prayer who models spiritual leadership and loves God’s Word.

Entrepreneurial & Mission-Driven
Motivated by a strong sense of calling to pioneer a new ministry.
Resilient and persevering in the face of challenges. Able to cast vision, inspire others, and mobilize people toward a shared mission.
Relational & Culturally Aware
A genuine love for Baltimore and its children and families. Relationally savvy, able to build trust across diverse communities. Skilled at engaging families, recruiting staff, and building a network of supporters.
Educational Leader
Passionate about classical Christian education and able to steward a rigorous, joyful, Christ-centered program. Experienced as a teacher and/or school leader (5+ years preferred). Adept at mentoring and equipping faculty to grow professionally and spiritually.
Organizational Builder
Strategic and disciplined in planning, prioritizing, and executing. Comfortable overseeing finances, fundraising, and school operations.
A clear communicator who can represent the school effectively to many audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership: Establish a Christ-centered culture marked by prayer, joy, and biblical wisdom.
School Leadership: Shape and oversee the academic program, student culture, and faculty development.
Team Building: Recruit, supervise, and support the first faculty and staff.
Community Engagement: Build partnerships with families, churches, donors, and community leaders.
Organizational Development: Work with the Board to secure funding, manage resources, and establish effective systems. Board Partnership: Serve as the primary link between the Board and the daily life of the school.

Passion for classical Christian education and urban ministry.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of teaching or school leadership experience.
Evidence of entrepreneurial initiative and perseverance.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Why This Role Matters
